The Hollywood Smile Defined
The term "Hollywood Smile" refers to a full aesthetic makeover of the visible teeth — typically 16 to 20 teeth — using porcelain veneers or crowns to create a uniformly white, symmetrical, and perfectly proportioned smile. Think actors, influencers, and anyone who's ever appeared on a TV presenter's chair.
Veneers, Crowns, or Composite?
Porcelain Veneers: The gold standard. Wafer-thin shells bonded to the front of teeth. Minimal tooth reduction. Last 15–20 years. Most natural-looking result.
Zirconia Crowns: Cap the full tooth. Used when teeth are structurally compromised. Extremely durable. Slightly less translucent than porcelain veneers.
Composite Bonding: A more affordable, reversible option. Resin applied and shaped directly on teeth. Lasts 5–7 years. Less stain-resistant than porcelain.
The Process Step by Step
- Consultation + smile design — digital mock-up of your new smile, color selection, shape preferences.
- Preparation — a small amount of enamel removed from each tooth (for veneers: 0.3–0.5mm).
- Temporaries fitted — you wear temporary veneers while permanents are crafted in the lab (typically 3–5 days in Turkey).
- Final fitting — permanents cemented, adjusted for bite and aesthetics.
How White Should You Go?
The most common mistake patients make is going too white. A shade that looks natural on camera can look unnaturally bright in everyday life. A2 or B1 (on the VITA shade scale) tends to be the sweet spot — bright and white, but not blinding. Discuss shade selection carefully with your dentist.
Cost in Turkey vs Europe
A full Hollywood Smile (20 veneers) in the UK: £12,000–£24,000. In Turkey: €2,500–€5,000 for the same quality porcelain, same lab standards, same procedure. Many clinics include accommodation and transfers in dental tourism packages.
The Honest Caveat
Veneers are irreversible — once enamel is removed, the teeth will always need some form of covering. Choose this procedure only when you're committed long-term, and always with a qualified, experienced cosmetic dentist who prioritizes the health of your teeth above aesthetics.
